Healthy Hints is a free hobby app that lets you earn hints in Archipelago multiworld games by walking. This policy explains what data it uses and where that data goes. The short version: the app runs on your own computer, and the developer receives none of your data.
What data the app accesses
Only if you choose to connect Google Health, the app reads your
step count for the current day. It asks Google for
read-only access to activity and fitness data
(googlehealth.activity_and_fitness.readonly) and uses nothing
but step counts. It does not read heart rate, sleep, location, your
profile or any other health data. If you prefer, you can skip Google
entirely and type in your steps by hand.
How the data is used
Step counts are used for one purpose: working out how many hints you have earned (for example, one hint for every 3,000 steps, up to a daily limit). They are not used for advertising, profiling, or anything else.
Where the data is stored
Everything is stored in files on your own computer, in the folder where you run the app:
- your saved progress: hint balance, banked steps, the last step total and your hint history;
- your Google sign-in tokens, in a file readable only by your user account.
If you are a room host running the optional broker, it also saves, on your computer, how many hints each player has requested today (player names and counts only) so its daily limits survive a restart.
Passwords you type into the app (room and admin passwords) are kept in memory only and are never written to disk. The app's web page listens only on your own computer (127.0.0.1), not on your network.
What is shared, and with whom
- Google. The app talks to Google to sign you in and to read your step count. This is governed by Google's privacy policy. Google may show the developer aggregate information, such as how many people have authorized the app, but not your health data.
- The Archipelago server you connect to. The app sends your slot name and hint requests (a player name and an item name). If a room host runs the optional Healthy Hints "broker", it sees those requests as ordinary room chat. Your step counts and other health data are never sent to the Archipelago server, the host or other players.
- The developer. Nothing. The developer runs no server that receives your data.
Your data is never sold, rented or shared for advertising, and the app contains no ads and no analytics or tracking.
Google Health API Limited Use
The use of information received from Google Health API and/or Developer Tools will adhere to the Google Health API Developer and User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your computer until you delete it. You can remove it at any time:
- Click Disconnect Google Health in the app. This deletes the saved sign-in tokens and asks Google to revoke the app's access.
- Delete the app's progress file (
state.json) to remove your saved progress and hint history. - Or remove the app's access from your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Because the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing for the developer to delete on your behalf.
Children
Healthy Hints is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes how it handles data, this page will be updated and the date above changed.
